The smart on-demand mobility solution

Ride‑sharing has exploded in popularity in recent years. It doesn't just provide a way for people to get from point A to point B. It's changing the world for the better. That's why, in collaboration with the Saudi Public Transport Company (SAPTCO), we co‑developed Rekab – a service offering a vehicle-sharing option to multiple passengers who are headed in the same direction.

According to statistics from 2017 to 2021, the market value of ride-sharing has increased 12 times over in the U.S. However, its massive growth in popularity is not exclusive to the United States – it happens all over the world.

Riders currently face a trade-off between the convenience of ride-hailing transport and the affordability of public transport. The growing issue of congestion in urban areas and expensive modes of transport are the biggest challenges. One of the reasons why ride-sharing managed to rise so quickly is its affordability. On many routes, it's up to 50% cheaper to travel by ride-share than to use public transport.

Our main contribution

Creative Dock has come up with an innovative digital mobility service to reduce traffic congestion and parking requirements. Ride-sharing also helps eliminate vehicle emissions and creates a less stressful commute.

Sustainable approach

Ride-sharing is changing the world for the better by reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Moreover, as urban populations are rocketing, it is on its way to becoming a primary mode of transportation.

Rekab is an innovative digital mobility service with a new concept of sharing using technically equipped vehicles. A smart on-demand mobility solution that carries multiple passengers in the same direction in a shared vehicle, making it a new, smart way to get around town. It's essentially a combination of public transport and carpooling that brings together the best of both worlds.

In the MENA region, commuters are putting a huge strain on existing infrastructure and cities must respond in some way. Hence, the Saudi Public Transport Company, in partnership with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, has launched an on-demand ride-sharing service that operates exclusively on the university campus in Thuwal, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Rekab's fleet is currently ready to take passengers to Dammam, Jeddah, and Riyadh. The service plans to gradually expand to other locations in the Kingdom and the MENA region, becoming a true model for smart cities. We also aim to support SAPTCO's transformation into a "National Digital Mobility Champion" and provide innovative solutions and systems for transport and logistics.

We had to deal with problems on several levels:

  • Commuters are putting enormous pressure on existing infrastructure, and cities must respond to these challenges with urgency
  • Inefficient existing infrastructure
  • High investment in new public solutions
  • Long lead times for new projects

Rekab is an AI-based on-demand mobility solution offering multiple riders headed in the same direction the option to ride in a shared vehicle. It consists of a smart matching algorithm that enables dynamic ride-sharing as a result of situational demand. Our team helped develop a variety of features, including:

  • Dynamic Route Modelling
  • Sharing rides with like-minded commuters
  • Feeding directly into public transport

600+ active drivers

3.5 million total trips

15% market share in ride-sharing

Rekab is the first service with such advanced features in KSA and has also been a great success, taking more than a quarter of a million trips in less than a year during 2020 with a rating of 4.8 out of 5.0. Since its launch, Rekab has become the leader in ride-sharing in KSA.

positive impact

available seats per day by 2025

Rekab provides a sustainable mobility solution for urban commuters by reducing traffic congestion and carbon dioxide emissions. This leads to up to a 5-time reduction in carbon dioxide emissions per trip as opposed to solitary driving. In line with its strong growth strategy, Rekab aims to reach more than 320,000 available seats per day by 2025.

Beyond the sustainability and convenience that traveling with Rekab provides, the service strives to help create a vibrant community and a more sustainable lifestyle. It aims to develop innovative smart mobility solutions that enrich the lives of individuals and society as a whole.
